Parent Immersion Guide

At Madrona School, we support our families in their parenting journey. Our teachers are a wonderful resouces for answering questions, discussing your child, and finding strategies that make pareniting easier and more effective. The better we understand our children, the better we are able to meet their needs.

To cultivate confident, compassionate and joyful individuals who are explorers in the adventure of their own lives, parents should model these behaviors by staying informed and actively engaged.

ENGAGEMENT

We strive to support and encourage parent in the nurturing of their children, modeling and teaching in ways that will maximize each child’s natural growth and actualize their full potential.

  • Tuesday Newsday is emailed weekly from the Head of School; all adults are responsible for staying informed in a timely manner.

  • Articles, videos, and books posted on the Madrona website; specialized articles recommended by the Teachers also provided through Blackbaud Parent Portal.

  • Monthly teacher letter with classroom news and upcoming events, Parent meetings (three minimum), Parent-Teacher conferences (twice a year)

  • The teachers appreciate ongoing communication; you need not wait to schedule a meeting if you have a concern

  • Participate and volunteer at Festivals and Events, attend enrollment and parent enrichment events throughout the year, and volunteer on the Community and Marketing Committees

 

FESTIVALS + EVeNTS

The Madrona School community celebrates the rhythms of the seasons through several festivals held throughout the year: Harvest Festival, Lantern Walk, Spiral of Light, Family Day, and May Day Day. You are invited to shared these special school events with your children. Please watch for these opportunities and participate.

 
 

September Harvest Festival

SEPTEMBER HARVEST FESTIVAL

  • Prepare yourself for the oncoming dark and cold with personal challenges

  • Enjoy warm soup and bread, an artistic presentation from the grades, and a community sing along

 

November - lantern festival

  • A quiet, reverent shining of light in the growing darkness

  • Celebrate with homemade lanterns,bring your singing voices and walking shoes

 

Spiral of Light

DECEMBER - SPIRAL OF LIGHt

  • We gather together in silence around a spiral of fir branches

  • Each family lights a candle, placing it along the spiral. The light of our community shines bright through the dark winter night

 

JANUARY - FAMILY DAY

  • Join us for an immersive open house

  • Enjoy warm soup and bread, a peek into what happens in the classrooms, various activities for the children, and a community gathering

 

May Day

MAY - MAY DAY

  • Celebration of Spring: Music and dancing around the May Pole, games for children and adults, flower crowns, and spring colors

 

VOLUNteering

Like many small schools, Madrona relies heavily on parent volunteers. While Madrona has no set requirement and recognizes that different families contribute in varying ways, we strongly recommend parent contribute a minimum of five hours each month.

 
 

MARKETING COMMITTEE

The Marketing and Communications Committee is empowered by the Board of Trustees to support the marketing and outreach efforts for Madrona School. It works closely with school staff to develop, execute, and measure a communications and marketing plan.

 

Working together in community

COMMUNITY COMMITTEE

The Community Committee creates contexts for cross-cohort relationships to build among parents and to create relationships between parents and the other working realms of the school’s faculty, administration and board. Our goal is to increase parent’s investment, commitment and understanding of Waldorf education at Madrona School through building relationships.

 

Fundraising Matters

FUNDRAISING

Because tuition does not cover the full cost of educating children at Madrona, all parents, faculty and staff are asked to assist in our fundraising efforts and to contribute to the Year End Giving Campaign.

 

PARENT ENRICHMENT

Your class teacher will schedule at least three parent meeting throughout the year. These meetings are an important part of building the class community, and communicate a lot of what is happening inside the classroom each day. They should not be missed!
