“The first week of school, my daughter said: ‘Mom , I wish school lasted until 5 pm’. The last month of school, she told me: ‘Mom, I wish school did not end so soon’.”
“Madrona is a gift to our children and the whole community! Keep up the great work! I tell everyone I come in contact about the school and what it has meant to our lives and our daughters! I have watched [them both] change dramatically since becoming part of the Madrona community. They entered unhappy and with a lack of confidence. Now I am in awe of how confident, happy and well rounded my daughters are! I for one will never be able to thank you enough for what your wonderful school has given them.””
“This school brings so much joy to our child’s life which in turn makes our lives so much richer. The wholesomeness and care each teacher puts into their students is invaluable”

Our grade school curriculum delivers a classical education, teaching the traditional academic subjects (like mathematics, language arts, science) through an interdisciplinary approach that weaves in storytelling, movement, music and the arts every day. The Waldorf curriculum consciously strives to develop the whole child, not just intellectually, but also physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
Founded in 1999 by a group of committed parents and teachers, Madrona School, a waldorf school, is celebrating its 25th school year. The school now serves 72 children in Parent-Child, Preschool, Kindergarten and 1st through 6th grades. Set amongst towering trees, tucked away in the heart of Winslow on Bainbridge Island, our school integrates a classical education with movement, the arts, and the wonder of nature, to meet each student's developmental needs.
Waldorf pedagogy is a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically rigorous approach to education. It integrates the arts in all academic disciplines for children … to enhance and enrich learning. Waldorf education aims to inspire lifelong learning in all students and to enable them to fully develop their unique capacities.
Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility -- these three forces are the very nerve of education." -Rudolf Steiner, founder of Waldorf education
