Founded in 1999 by a group of committed parents and teachers, Madrona School, a waldorf school, is celebrating its 25th school year. The school now serves 72 children in Parent-Child, Preschool, Kindergarten and 1st through 6th grades. Set amongst towering trees, tucked away in the heart of Winslow on Bainbridge Island, our school integrates a classical education with movement, the arts, and the wonder of nature, to meet each student's developmental needs.
Waldorf pedagogy is a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically rigorous approach to education. It integrates the arts in all academic disciplines for children … to enhance and enrich learning. Waldorf education aims to inspire lifelong learning in all students and to enable them to fully develop their unique capacities.
Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives. The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility -- these three forces are the very nerve of education." -Rudolf Steiner, founder of Waldorf education
