1st grade teacher sought for 2018-2019

Madrona School on Bainbridge Island, WA seeks an experienced Waldorf grades teacher for fall of 2018. Join a team of dedicated teachers (total teaching staff of 28) and a community of parents committed to providing a balanced, wholesome Waldorf education in Kitsap County. Most of the incoming 1st graders will have enjoyed two or more years in our early childhood classes, including lots of outdoor play and many full days of farm Kindergarten and nature exploration.

About Madrona School

Founded in 1999, Madrona School serves 145 children in parent-child classes, preschool, kindergarten and 1st through 8th grades. Grades students experience the full array of Waldorf subject classes including Spanish (1st-8th grades), Swedish (1st - 4th grades), handwork, games, strings ensemble (4th - 8th grades). Gardening classes take place at our nearby 5-acre farm property with a large working garden. Eurythmy is taught in 6-week blocks once or twice a year.

An associate member of AWSNA and full member of WECAN, Madrona School participates in a consortium of nine Waldorf schools around Puget Sound which creates a rich community resource for our teachers and staff.

Living on beautiful Bainbridge Island, we enjoy a quieter pace of life, while being able to access the amenities of bustling Seattle just a 30 minute ferry-boat ride away. Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience. Program Director

Madrona School on Bainbridge Island, WA seeks a Waldorf grades teacher with demonstrated leadership abilities to join our administrative team as the new Program Director. Working in close partnership with the Head of School, responsibilities will include leading on-going program development and visioning, teacher guidance and support, student and family support, and assisting with daily operations.

Founded by a group of committed parents in 1999, Madrona School serves approx. 145 children in parent-child classes, preschool, kindergarten and 1st through 8th grades. Our collegial group of 20 dedicated teachers and staff and community of parents are committed to providing Waldorf education in Kitsap County. This is an exciting time in the school’s development as we have outgrown our rented facilities and are on the brink of launching a capital campaign to build a new campus on a nearby 5-acre farm property with a large working garden.

A developing member of AWSNA and WECAN, Madrona School participates in a consortium of nine Waldorf schools around Puget Sound.

Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and Waldorf teacher training with substantial Waldorf grades teaching experience. Experience in remedial education and/or school counseling desired as well. Excellent listening, written and oral communication skills that support strong leadership skills exercised with an attitude of collegiality and teamwork.
