Madrona School welcomes enrollment inquiries throughout the school year. Applications for mid-year enrollments are accepted on a rolling basis. The application deadline for Fall 2026:

• Preschool (ages 2 1/2 - 4): February 10, 2026

• Kindergarten (ages 4 - 6): February 10, 2026

• Grades 1 - 6 (ages 6 - 11): February 10, 2026

After the deadline, applications are considered if space is available.

Our Application Process

1. Fill out our inquiry form here to get started. We are offering individual, in-person school tours by appointment.

2. Once an Inquiry Form has been completed, we will contact you to schedule a tour. When you are ready to apply we will send you a link to access our online application. We recognize that home-schooled students may have different types of records; please consider submission of your home-school curriculum, a recent assignment, any written assessments of student work, and ask an adult mentor to complete our teacher questionnaire.

Once the school has received all necessary materials, you will be contacted to discuss next steps in the admissions process. 

Possible Next Steps Include:

1. Family Interview: These interviews, with at least two teachers, provide a chance for parents to ask in-depth questions about Madrona School, and the Waldorf curriculum, and allow the teacher to meet your child and learn more about your family. It’s important to use this time to make sure Waldorf education is a good fit for your family and your child.

Please note:  Parent-Child applications are enrolled directly without an interview. Preschool and kindergarten teachers will schedule a time to meet with parents and their child in the play yard during non-school hours.

Grades applicant families meet with two grades teachers, both with the child, and then without children present. Madrona School’s program is designed to serve children of an average range of intelligence and ability. Children with greater-then-average needs at either end of the capability or behavioral spectrum may be admitted under special circumstances, to be determined on a case-by-case basis when there is a strong commitment by the parents to arrange and pay for extra support needed. Additional assessment may be requested as indicated by the child’s records and information gathered during the family interview. These assessments will be arranged and paid for by the parents at the request of the admissions staff.

2. Classroom visit and assessment: Grades applicants spend one to three days visiting the class in which they would be placed. At some point during the visit, your child will participate in a developmental and/or academic assessment. The cost is included in the application fee. These assessments provide valuable information to the teacher about learning styles, academic skill acquisition, and etc.

Post-Admission: 

1. The enrollment/materials fee is due upon signing your enrollment contract. This fee is non-refundable and covers the materials that will be purchased on your child’s behalf. 

2. Before beginning school, families may meet with administrative staff to review paperwork and the contract, discuss school life and policies, volunteer opportunities and mutual expectations.

Madrona School accepts children for mid-year enrollments on a rolling basis, as space allows.

 Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of $75.00 for preschool, kindergarten, and grades 1-6 applications, is due when the application is submitted.

We educate the whole child, and offer programs for children 0-12 years old.

We encourage you to reach out to learn more even if these annual tuitions present a financial hardship for your family. Financial aid is available to families of children ages 5 - 12, based on need as determined by Blackbaud Tuition Management. Over a third of our families receive a tuition reduction award each year. Ask us for more information on this program!

Parent-Child: Tuition is charged per 8-week session: $375 per 8 week session (3 session: Fall, Winter and Spring.)

3-Day Preschool: $6,550 annually plus a $355 enrollment fee.

4-Day Preschool: $8,750 annually plus a $355 enrollment fee.

4-Half Day Outdoor Kindergarten: $12,000 annually plus a $450 enrollment fee.

5-Half Day Outdoor Kindergarten: $14,600 annually plus a $450 enrollment fee.

5-Full Day Outdoor Kindergarten for 5 - 6 year olds: $17,100 annually plus a $450 enrollment fee.

Grades 1-6: $18,500 annually plus a $675 enrollment fee and a $325 activities fee.

Enrollment & Materials Fee: The non-refundable enrollment fee must be paid in full and submitted with a signed tuition contract to ensure a student’s space. The enrollment fee covers the costs of administrative work and classroom materials. We cannot hold spaces for children, nor staff our programs, until this fee and signed tuition contracts have been received. Blackbaud Tuition Management, a third party contractor, charges a $56 administration fee at the beginning of each school year for processing payments.

Activity Fee if Applicable: Activity fees cover the cost of field trips and chaperones, festival costs, special projects, any extra classes, and other fixed expenses. The activity fee is non-refundable and must be paid in full by August 1st. These activities constitute an integral part of the curriculum and participation is required.

Payment Schedule and Discounts: Tuition is paid monthly through Blackbaud Tuition Management on a 12-month basis beginning July 1. Payments can be made by auto withdrawal, credit card, cash or check. A 2% discount is offered to tuition paid in full by June 30th. Sibling discounts of 50% are offered for the third child (and fourth, etc.) enrolled from one family, and the discount applies to the youngest child’s tuition. Families receiving financial aid are not eligible for other reductions, such as early payment or sibling discounts.

Financial Aid Application Due February 12, 2026 or With a New Application: Financial aid is available to a limited number of families. Need is determined by Blackbaud Financial Aid Management. To apply for financial aid, families must submit financial data and 2025 tax returns to Blackbaud Tuition Management by February 12th. There will be a link in your Blackbaud Portal to fill out an application. There is no financial aid available for parent-child, preschool or the first year of kindergarten. Financial aid is available to grades 1 - 6 and the second year of kindergarten (5 & 6 year olds). A family that fails to meet any deadlines for filing applications or returning contracts might be denied financial aid. A family’s failure to keep current with tuition payments and other school invoices can also jeopardize eligibility for future financial aid awards.

Student Withdrawal: Because Madrona School bases its annual budget on tuition contracts received in the Spring, families withdrawing a student before October 31st are responsible for 30% of the contracted annual tuition. Withdrawals after October 31st are responsible for 100% of the contracted annual tuition amount.

Our commitment: One of Madrona School's missions is to provide Waldorf education to families who want it for their children, regardless of their ability to pay full tuition. We value economic diversity, and the contributions that each family brings to the school community. We will work with you to find a way for currently enrolled children to remain at Madrona School through their grade school years.

The program: Madrona School offers financial aid to qualifying families with children in the second year of Kindergarten (5 years old before September 1, 2026) and Grades 1 through 6.

Madrona School respectfully requests that families fully tap their own financial resources and seek help from extended family members (parents, grandparents, godparents) before seeking tuition assistance. In order to preserve Madrona School's financial health and resilience, families must make tuition one of their first priorities. Every year, some Madrona families make careful budgeting decisions and sacrifices in order to afford full tuition. There is no endowment to fund tuition assistance. All families, including those receiving tuition assistance, are expected to contribute to our annual Community Fund.

The process: Madrona School uses Blackbaud Tuition Management for tuition assistance to conduct an independent preliminary assessment of each family's fiscal strength. The Blackbaud Tuition Management formula takes into account many factors including the number of children in private school, the ages of the parents (years to retirement), savings and other assets, debt and exceptional medical expenses.

To apply for tuition assistance, parents must submit an application and the prior year tax returns via Blackbaud Tuition Management by February 17th, 2026 (or with your application for new families). The amount that a family can contribute toward tuition is of particular importance. The strength of Madrona School rests in each member of the parent body paying as much toward tuition as possible. Once the report from Blackbaud Tuition Management has been received, parents may meet with Madrona's head of school to finalize tuition assistance awards for the year. In some cases, a meeting will not be necessary. Tuition contracts must be signed and returned to the office with applicable enrollment fees no later than two weeks after receipt, to guarantee the tuition assistance package.

Restrictions: Every family pays a portion of tuition. In addition, enrollment and activity fees must be paid in full and cannot be reduced through tuition assistance. Families receiving tuition assistance are not eligible for other reductions such as early payment or sibling discounts. Tuition assistance is not available for students in the Parent-Child or Preschool programs. A family that fails to meet any deadlines for filing applications or returning contracts might be denied tuition assistance. A family's failure to keep current with tuition payments and other school invoices can also jeopardize eligibility for future tuition assistance awards.
