Health Commitment

Family Participation and Volunteer Opportunities - We have many committees that need volunteers. Please consider joining one of the following: Marketing, Community, Fundraising

Media Use Philosophy

Student Information and Field Trip Permission forms now done online through our parent portal: madronaschool.myschoolapp.com

Communications and Events: The Madrona School office communicates with all families through a weekly email newsletter. Sign up or change your email address here, and make sure your email settings accept emails from @madronaschool.org. School events and meetings are also published on our calendar (be sure to refresh your page view for the latest changes and additions). We also utilize an emergency notification system called School Messenger. If school is cancelled or there is any emergency while your children are in school, you will receive a text message and an email from School Messenger.

Cold Weather - When the roads are icy or slippery with snow, sometimes BISD will delay the opening of school for two hours so the roads can clear and be safer for travel. Madrona School follows the lead of BISD when determining whether to close school or delay the start for weather related hazards. If you are not a BISD guardian or staff member and wish to receive emergency text alerts from BISD, please email your cell phone number to ebischoff@bisd303.org and she will walk you through the appropriate steps. Please allow up to a week to be added to the system. You can find more information about BISD's emergency procedures and school closure protocols here. You will also receive a text message and email from Madrona School through our School Messenger Emergency Alert System.

If school announces a two hour delay:

  • Parent/Child class is canceled

  • Preschool is canceled

  • Partial day kindergarten in canceled

  • Full day kindergarten will begin at 10:45 am, drop off will begin at 10:30. Please send your child with a snack as well as a lunch, as faculty will not have time to prepare a snack.

  • Grade school will begin at 10:30 am, drop off will begin at 10:10. Grade school students should bring a snack and a lunch.

Air Quality - Given how much time our students spend outdoors, we may need to cancel school if the air quality is unhealthy, or unhealthy for sensitive groups. Young children are considered a sensitive group. If we do not cancel school but there is still smoke in the air, we recommend children 4 and older come to school with a facemask. We monitor airnow.gov for definitions of Air Quality Index (AQI), reports on air quality, and forecasts for the week. Here is our protocol:

Grades 1 - 3

  • AQI Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups: Masks recommended

  • AQI Unhealthy: School is cancelled

Thimbleberry Kindergarten

  • AQI Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups: Masks recommended and school is optional

  • AQI Unhealthy: School is cancelled

Huckleberry Preschool

  • AQI Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups or Unhealthy: School is cancelled
